Love is in the air when you are planning your wedding. Most of us have enough love in our hearts that we want to make the world a better place - if we knew we could really make a difference.

I’ve discovered how it feels to completely change the course of someone’s life. My friend Sophia is sixteen years old and lives in Rwanda, a green and mountainous country in the heart of Africa. When I met her she showed me her simple bungalow where she takes care of her four brothers, sisters and cousins. She told me that for the first time in her life she goes to school.

Sophia said that when she was five she saw her parents killed in the genocide that swept across Rwanda (as seen in the movie “Hotel Rwanda”). She survived by hiding under bodies in a ditch. She endured years in orphanages, foster homes and on the street. She found the surviving members of her family, and took care of them as best she could. Then a non-profit group gave her a chance to head her own household. That is how I met Sophia.

In Rwanda just $4,500 builds a four-bedroom house, and provides shelter and security. Please let the love and happiness of your special day continue for the rest of your life by helping me build a home for orphans like Sophia.

You can make a tax-deductible contribution. A home in Rwanda will be dedicated in your name, and I’ll send you a photo when it is built. I am committed to donating $50.00 for each full coverage wedding I photograph in 2006.

On your wedding day you will know that your happiness will live forever in a little girl’s heart in Africa. You would be surprised how little it takes to make a huge impact for good in the lives of the people I have met.

The children I met stole my heart.

I met with more than 100 people on my trip throughout Rwanda. Every person I met lost all or some of their family to the genocide. Many had physical scars from torture they endured. Indeed some of the testimony I heard was too gruesome for me to repeat.

The good news is these people can still feel joy and hope and want to move forward to rebuild their lives. Please pray for them and help if you can.

Rwanda is a remarkably beautiful country, I was blessed enough to be able to
track and photograph wild gorillas. Incredibly we were just about 10 feet away from them.
